Professional Background

Mr. Dang Viet Anh graduated from the Law University of Hanoi in 1999 and was called to the Hanoi Bar in 2006. He obtained professional experience in some leading law firms in Vietnam and a bouticque law firm in EU before joining Dzungsrt&Associates in 2008.

In his years of practice, Viet Anh has accumulated experience in both contentious as well as non-contentious work.
 
Contentious / Litigation and Wet Work Experience

Since 2005, Viet Anh’s practice has centred on Arbitration, Shipping Admiralty and Marine Insurance matters. His portfolio also includes general corporate and commercial litigation.

Viet Anh has vast and extensive experience in dealing with and advising on charterparty and bill of lading disputes, marine collision and casualty work, related hull and machinery matters, pollution, salvage and general average and limitation issues, cargo and bunker claims/disputes, shipbuilding and ship repair claims, freight forwarding and agency claims, ship supply, crew and ship mortgage/lien claims as well as all aspects of ship sale and purchase and ship financing.

In particular, Viet Anh has extensively advised major P&I Clubs, shipowners, charterer, manager and operators as well as cargo owners and its underwriters and international shipping law firms and acted in numerous litigation actions in Vietnam such as Larfage Cement Group (FR), ICC Paint Group (UK), Bunker Master (KR), Corus International Trading (HK), Wilson International Trading (SG), Vinci-Sumitomo Misui (JP), Trade Venture Investments (UK), Hanjin Shipping (VN), Monjasa (DK), O.W. Bunker (DK), Vinalines Group and its subsidiaries (VN) and various local clients, i.e. Viettelimex (VN), Hoang Son Group (VN).

Viet Anh has vast and extensive experience in dealing with and investigating marine collisions and casualty works, related hull and machinery matters, pollution, salvage and wreck removal, general average as well as arrest and release of vessels in various jurisdictions including Hong Kong, Singapore, Panama and especialy in Vietnam.

Non-contentious Experience

Viet Anh also extensive experience in handling international and domestic conveyancing matters, representing buyers, sellers, builders and their banks in S&P transactions. Insofar as conveyancing matters are concerned, in addition to representing individual/corporate buyers, sellers and mortgagors, he has represented various local and international banks and financial institutions in the capacity of mortgagees’ solicitors including HSBC, Nordea Bank and Standard Chartered Bank.
Viet Anh also has considerable experience in drafting and advising on general commercial contracts and agreements, charterparties, bills of lading, contracts of affreightment, ship building and sale contracts and international sale of goods contracts as well as all aspects of Admiralty practice and procedures. He has advised / acted in the following transactions:-
 
- Purchase of vessels from Vinashin Group and its shipyards, – including conduct of negotiations on S&P terms, review of and advice on mortgages/ charges over the vessels and delivery documents;
- Sale of 5 vessels from Pha Rung Shipyard (Vietnam);
- Purchase of two 52,000DWT vessels from Nam Trieu Shipyard (Vietnam).

 

Further to conveyancing matters, he has also advised clients on various issues of dry work including the application of Hague-Visby Rules and Hamburge Rules in Vietnam, application of York-Antwerp Rules in Vietnam to adjust G/A, delivery of good under straight bill, arrest of a vessel upon unpaid bunker claim, territorial waters of Vietnam and territorial jurisdiction and control over wreck removal issues and various cases in relation to the conflict of law rules of Vietnam.
